If you have ceramic knives, test the edge (for chips) with your fingernail. This sharpener system is a magic tool for restoring the edge. Don't kid yourself, ONLY diamonds have the ability to sharpen ceramic knives. Years ago, my wife dropped on of our ceramic knives on the floor and about 3/16" of the enc broke off. I was able to use this sharpener to grind a new point on the end on the knife.
